Storm Damage

What is included, and how it goes.

Tarrant County sits in one of the busiest hail corridors in the country, and most springs bring at least one storm that damages roofs somewhere between Fort Worth and Grapevine. Hail damage is easy to miss from the ground. A shingle can look intact while the impact has cracked the mat underneath and knocked loose the granules that protect it from UV, and that bruise turns into a leak a year or two later.

A storm inspection looks for that evidence methodically. Soft metals come first: dents in gutters, downspouts, turtle vents and ridge caps show the size and direction of the hail. Then the shingles themselves, slope by slope, checking for bruising, fractures and granule loss, and for creased or missing tabs where wind got under them. You get photos and detailed notes of what we found.

The Difference

Worth knowing before you decide.

When a storm has opened the roof, the priority is keeping water out. Temporary tarping covers the damaged area until a permanent repair or a replacement can be scheduled, which protects the decking, insulation and ceilings below.

From there the work depends on the extent of the damage. Scattered wind damage is often a repair. Hail that has bruised shingles across entire slopes usually means replacement, and that is typically the point where an insurance claim makes sense.

Storms also tend to damage more than the roof. Gutters, attic vents, siding and fascia take the same hits, and we can repair those alongside the roof so the claim and the work cover everything the storm did.

If you are thinking about a new roof after a storm, it is worth asking about Class 4 impact-resistant shingles. They are tested against steel balls dropped from height, and many Texas insurers offer a premium discount for them.

Before You Call

Storm Damage, answered.

How do I know if hail damaged my roof?

Look at the soft metals first. Dented gutters, downspouts or roof vents after a storm are a strong sign the shingles were hit too. Granules collecting at the bottom of downspouts are another. A roof inspection is the only way to confirm it.

How soon after a storm should I get my roof inspected?

As soon as it is practical. Most Texas policies set a deadline for reporting storm damage, and small cracks let water in over time. Photos taken soon after the storm also make the connection to that event easier to show.

Can you tarp my roof right away?

We provide temporary tarping to protect the house until the permanent repair. Emergencies are usually handled the same day, depending on call volume after a storm.

Do I need to file a claim before you inspect?

No. Many homeowners have the inspection first to find out whether there is damage worth claiming. If there is, we can walk you through filing.
