What is included, and how it goes.
Asphalt shingles cover most homes in North Texas, and they are the right choice for a lot of them. Metal and stone coated steel make sense when you plan to stay in the house a long time, when the roof has been replaced after hail more than once, or when you want a roof that reflects more summer heat.
Stone coated steel is steel panel pressed into the profile of a shingle, shake or tile and finished with a layer of stone granules. From the street it reads as a traditional roof. It weighs far less than clay or concrete tile, and it generally holds up well to hail because the steel dents rather than cracks.

The work
Most jobs are finished in a single day, weather permitting, and the site is cleaned before we leave.
The Difference
Worth knowing before you decide.
Metal panel roofs, including exposed-fastener panels and standing seam, give a cleaner, more modern look and are common on barns, shops, additions and rural homes west of Fort Worth as well as on newer houses. Standing seam hides its fasteners, which removes the most common leak point on a metal roof.
Cost is the trade-off. In North Texas a metal or stone coated steel roof commonly runs two to three times the price of architectural shingles. Against that, these systems are rated to last several decades, some carry impact ratings that insurers reward with a premium discount, and a light-colored metal roof reflects a large share of the sun that would otherwise heat the attic.
Installation matters more with metal than with shingles. Panels expand and contract with the temperature swings a Texas day brings, so fastening, trim and flashing details have to allow for that movement. Underlayment and ventilation still apply underneath.
Every installation carries our 10-year installation warranty, and more on some systems, alongside the manufacturer warranty for the product.

Metal Roofing, answered.
Is a metal roof worth it in Texas?
If you plan to stay in the home for a long time or have had hail replace your roof before, often yes. The higher up-front cost is offset by a much longer service life and, with some products, an insurance discount.
Does hail dent a metal roof?
Large hail can dent metal panels, usually cosmetically rather than causing leaks. Stone coated steel hides minor dents well because of its textured finish.
Are metal roofs noisy in the rain?
Over solid decking and underlayment, as on a house, a metal roof is not much louder than shingles.
How much does a stone coated steel roof cost?
Commonly two to three times the cost of architectural shingles in North Texas, depending on the profile and the roof. The inspection gives you an exact price.
